Overview

Altai Tavan Bogd National Park was established in 1996 to protect the local wildlife and natural environment. It covers an area of 6,362 km², including Khoton, Khurgan, and Dayan lakes. In these areas, you can encounter wild animals such as argali sheep, ibex, foxes, and golden eagles. The Altai Tavan Bogd mountain range, after which the park is named, is the major attraction of western Mongolia. Get ready for an extraordinary journey into Mongolian and Kazakh traditions, gathering around the warm stove of a yurt. This is a cultural and human adventure you won’t soon forget.

D-1. Arrival in Ulaanbaatar

Upon arrival at Chinggis Khan International Airport in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, your guide-interpreter and driver will meet you. Transfer to your hotel and city tour (half-day or full-day excursion depending on your arrival time.

D-2. Flight to Bayan-Ulgii

Early in the morning, depart for an approximately 3-hour flight, 1500 km from Ulaanbaatar, descending into the magnificent Altai Mountains at Bayan-Ulgii. Depending on our arrival time, we may visit the regional museum where we will discover the local flora and fauna.

D-3. Horseback riding in the Altai Tavan Bogd

We'll begin with a horseback ride through the majestic Altai Mountains to see the Altai Tavan Bogd Peaks. The tour takes you through the almost untouched mountain landscapes of Western Mongolia. Trekking in Altai Tavan Bogd National Park is undoubtedly the highlight of the trip.

D-4. Khoton & Khurgan Lakes

Take a road trip from the White River to the Syrgal Valley, in the heart of Kazakh country. Diverse landscapes will accompany us along the way: lakes, larch forests, and snow-capped peaks. During the day, we will visit a sanctuary dedicated to the Kazakh people and the indigenous Tuva Uriankhai ethnic group.

D-5. Tsambagarav National Park

Tsambagarav National Park is located in Bayan Ölgii Province in the far west of Mongolia. Established in 2000, it covers an area of ​​1,110 km² in a glacial region encompassing the Tsambagarav Mountains.

D-6. Return to Ulaanbaatar

Early in the morning, depart from Bayan-Ulgii for Ulaanbaatar, covering approximately 1,500 km on a 3-hour flight. Depending on our arrival time, we may attend the “Tumen Ekh” traditional performance.

D-7. Departure

This day we will transfer to the airport for departure.
